Pitching For Change
Branch Out has been part of an exciting new program that’s making waves across the non-profit community!
March 20, 2014
For the past two months the Branch Out Neurological Foundation has been a part of a spectacular program called Fast Pitch Calgary. No, not a sporting event, although just as competitive and making waves across the non-profit community!
The event is put on by Social Venture Partners Calgary, a group dedicated to bringing together individuals interested in philanthropy and social change within Calgary…best karma ever!?
I know I know, What is Fast Pitch it already!!
Fast Pitch is a two-month program, which consists of training and mentoring for innovative non-profits that are effecting social change in Calgary.
Twenty-three non-profit leaders are teamed with 50 professionals from the corporate sector. Networks are immensely expanded, and opportunities abound. The winnings include over $55 000 of cash and prizes.
Last Wednesday, at the finale event, the judge’s made their final choice for best pitch.
Each pitch is 3 minutes, with no power point and a giant clock ticking down behind the contestant. Just a pretty pitch couldn’t sway the judges as they based their decision on the 3 categories of innovation, impact and presentation.
*drum roll* And the winner's are...
Audience Choice AND Coaches Choice (yes, dual winner!): Crystal Phillips with Branch Out Foundation. Coached by Paula Blackmore-White and Cale White, Crystal impressively delivered a pitch to be proud of. The two prizes consist of $6,000 and services from Finance for Good, Socialish and Stand and Command consulting.
Judge’s Choice: Jeremy Bryant with Meal Share an innovative idea where you can feed someone in need by simply dining out yourself! The prize consisted of $10,000 and services from Socialish.
In the end, all the contestants felt like a team, and cheered each other on. They had shared their emotional stories and offered each other support and feedback throughout the workshops leading up to these pitches.
The venue was at the Grand Theatre where live music, good food and Village Brewery Beer allowed everyone to unwind and celebrate the amazing journey that is Fast Pitch.
